My Story

My story is in the Archives. It will help explain my motivation in creating this blog/journal.

Goals: Run, Run, Run!! (I think about it every day. Every day!) - 10K (at least 3 this year) - 1/2 marathon (outside of practice) - St. George Marathon (Ran a 4:24 it in 2004. Want to do it under 4 hours this time) - Boston Marathon (My life long running dream besides the Olympics.)

Day 49

August 1, 2009
4 mil - 37 min

I'm always holding back. I'm so afraid I won't be able to finish the run without walking. Why that's a fear I don't know. I do know that even in track it held me back from my potential. So, in effort to run faster and farther I ran as fast as I could today. Even from the beginning, which I usually don't do. I did have to walk in the end, but wow was that first 3.5 miles awesome!

The first 3 miles were 27 min! The first 3.5 were 31 min! I walked the last .5 miles and I still ran the entire 4 miles faster than Thursday by 3 min! My mile markers aren't exact because I don't have a garmin and I have to drive to find out the milage. (I know that the total milage is correct.) But they are really close and that is awesome! What a great run!!

I felt really strong at the beginning and just knew that I was running faster. There was no question. Then at the 3 mile mark I thought I was going to die. I almost went home without finishing the full 4 miles. I think that would have been a mistake.

I was planning to run 5 miles, but that last mile hurt so bad I ditched. For the first time ever, I feel like I ran as hard as I could. Having nothing left over was hard though. It also made me realize that I can run faster. I just need to push myself.

I only saw 1 car today. Weird! There were only 2 runners too. Where is everyone? I know it's Saturday, but... Maybe they were all running in races. I wish I had been. That is a pretty good time, 27 mins, for a 5k when you are old like me. I bet I could have run faster if I had been in a race.

Today I saw knats going into my face. (I think I got one in my mouth. BLAUGH!) A huge beetle (the size of my thumb.) A spider that seemed not to care at all that I was comming. And a watch that told me that I was running way faster than I usually do by 45 seconds per mile! (74)
